What I Wore - Mixing My Prints + Halftee Review

Alright, this outfit is not the normal me. It's more of a boho-chic look. Which is normally not what I wear. But, I really wanted to wear this top today, and I didn't have much that matched & looked good except this Lauren Ralph Lauren skirt. I think it is good to sometimes mix up your style and try something new. Another thing I did that was new was layer two necklaces together. I've always like this look on others, but I never tried it out on myself - until today that is.

Now, I didn't have to add the white halftee under this striped tee. But I wanted too. Wearing it underneath this type of top gave me a confidence that my shirt would never slip too low any which way, and that nothing I didn't want to show would be seen by others. It was great! Another awesome thing about halftees? They are only half a t-shirt. Why is this such a good thing? It means there is no added bulk under your shirts! Which is really good. Also, the halftee has no decided front, or back. Which is great if you want an even higher neckline; personally, I don't. Oh, there is even one more great thing about their shirts. They are so soft & comfy and they fit snugly. I picked out a small and it was a perfect fit for me. Definitely check out their size chart before ordering. I can't wait to order more halftees for the summer!

When my mom and I went across the pond and over to London in 2009. We picked up a 1930s board game at the Imperial War Museum: London called, Touring England.

You get to travel all across England visiting all the little towns that you have the cards for. And the first one to visit all of their towns & cities win! It is a fun game & easy way to learn where the towns & cities of England.

Going Through the Era's // Historical Sunday {1930s}

Here we are at the start of GTTE {Going Through the Era's} blog event. This week we are all going to sharing bits & pieces of the 1930s. And with today being Historical Sunday, I'm going to share a tidbit of history you may, or may not know already. Y'all can share a Historical Event, Invention, Discovery, and/or Person from the 1930s.

Did You Know.....The Star Spangled Banner wasn't our National Anthem until March 3, 1931, when President Herbert Hoover signed an act for it to become our National Anthem. Before that we didn't have a National Anthem, meaning America has only had a National Anthem for eighty-one years.

Downton Abbey Style for Today

So, I've fallen-in-love with Downton Abbey's clothing. It makes me wish we could still wear 1910s clothing.....I guess period dramas have a way of doing that to me. I really like Lady Mary & Lady Sybil clothing. Lady Edith gets on my nerves {she gets better in the middle of season 2}. Cora, Countess of Grantham is simply lovely - I love her clothes too! Then of course, there are the gentlemen...Matthew, Branson, William, Bates.... Well, I better get back to talking about the clothing. *grin*

Now, I for one, love to capture the look of a era/movie/TV show/etc... through modern clothes. I can do it with costumes too. But right now in my life, modern clothes are what I'm interested in. If you were to ask me, 'how do I capture the look of something?' I would say, 'it is all about the details.' For example: Take a look at Lady Mary's board below. What are some key things we notice? Soft fabrics, chiffon, lace, stripes, hats, girly details, mix of textures, some structure, etc.... Then I try to find modern pieces that capture either the era/look/or character I'm trying to recreate. Also, if you really wanted to copy Lady Mary's look I would recommend you wear your hair up and some dainty earrings. It is the small things that really take the look to another level. Does this make sense?

Now just one disclaimer: I don't recommend this show for younger ladies. As there are some subjects for a more older audience. And one, or two scenes to skip in the first two episodes{I think} of season one, you will know when it is getting close. Now, I enjoy the show greatly and can't wait for season three!

Making Downton Abbey Style Your Own
