Pattern Review - Butterick 5249

Pattern: B5249. I used view A, minus the belt loops.

Pattern Description: MISSES’ SKIRT AND BELT: Skirts A, B, C, D have princess seams, back zipper and high waist. A, C: carriers and self-belt with purchased buckle. B, D: side front pleats and pockets. C, D: self-ruffle. A, B, C, D: mid-knee length.

Pattern Sizing: 6-20. I made it a size up (12) from my normal (10), as my hips are my biggest measurement.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Yes!

Were the instructions easy to follow? I didn't use them. For this is a really basic pattern.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I can easily make this in a hour and a half. Hurray!

Fabric Used: Flannel from Joann Fabrics. =)

Pattern Alterations or any design changes you made: I didn't add the belt loops and I left off the facing. Instead, I used double-fold bias tape around the top, my favorite waist treatment. I also had to add two darts on top, as there was a gap around my waist.

Would you sew it again? Yes! I love pencil skirts!

Would you recommend it to others? Yes!

The New Sensibility.com Site! (Plus A Giveaway) Closed

In honor of the “new” sensibility.com, I have been given the chance to host a giveaway for an e-pattern from Sense & Sensibility Patterns. Sense & Sensibility Patterns have various historical patterns, ranging from the 1790s – 1940s. I own many of them myself (still missing a few), and can highly recommend them to anyone – even the beginner sewer can use these. Yes, some patterns are a higher level then others, but you can start out with the easier ones first (Beatrix Skirt, Regency Dress, Edwardian Apron) and work your way up. If you need help with the patterns there are always, her online classes (I’ve taken two) and a message board (I have found this most helpful) with ladies full of knowledge and experience.

To enter the e-pattern giveaway:

• Post about the “new” sensibility.com on your blog, twitter, or facebook.
• Leave a comment on this post with a link to your post on any of those social networks.
• Also leave some way for me to contact you. I prefer email, that way I can send it off to Jennie Chancey, and she will contact you about downloading your e-pattern. =) Nice and simple.

This giveaway is open to everyone! Hurray! =)

Giveaway ends on May 18th at 12:00PM (EST). With the winner being drawn at random, using random.org, sometime the following day.

This giveaway is closed.

What I Wore in Charleston, SC + Photos from my trip!

WARNING! Lots of pictures ahead! =) LOL!

Do your surroundings ever affect how you dress for the day? Well, for me they did while I was in Charleston, SC. I dressed more upscale the whole trip, my sisters called it, "Beach Resort." So I was more dressed up then my family the whole trip, but I love to dress up I dislike dressing casual. You know like a skirt or jeans with a printed t-shirt. I do have printed tees (from trips), but I don't always wear them, mostly only when I work in the yard. :P Anyways, here are the pictures! =)

Day 1 (Or 2 if you count the day it took to drive there.)
On our first day in Charleston we visited Fort Sumter, King Street (High-end shopping area. We only window shopped.), and two historical homes. They were the Edmondston-Alston house and Heyward-Washington house.

-What I'm Wearing-
Turquoise Shirtwaist Dress - Liz Claiborne Outlet
Layer Necklace - Bass Shoe Outlet
Purple Purse - St. John's Bay J.C.Penny
Pearl Earrings - Gift

An old pharmacy.

A $175 dress my mom and I feel in loved with. Minus the price of course. I would love to recreate this knit wrap dress, someday. ;) You gotta love those pockets and sleeves!

The ruffles and shabby chic look of this dress, grabbed my attention.

Another look at the dress, but from across the street.

One lovely nightgown and housecoat/dressing gown.

A close-up shoot. ;)

And side-view.
A darling little girls dress. Kinda 1930s, yes?

Darling nautical themed clothing for a boy and girl.
