What I Wore | Very Audrey Hepburn

Today's outfit is inspired by Audrey Hepburn - minus the fedora {that is inspired by Frank Sinatra.} I've put together a little mood board to show my inspiration - the picture of Audrey in the white striped top is from the set of Roman Holiday {which is one of my many favorite movies}.

Today I've included a picture of this evening's sunset. Isn't it pretty? I'm going to miss these sunsets when we get back home. Of course, we will only be home a few days before we are on the road again {you'll see where we are going in an upcoming post}. I promise y'all we don't normally travel this much so close together. *grin* But, it sure is fun!

You know what? I've been noticing that most of clothes I've been wearing lately are from Forever21. Hmmm...well, their clothes are cute & affordable for my wallet. It has definitely become one of my favorite stores these past couple of months.

Oh, and by the way, I'll be make Old Sewing Projects a regularly series from now on. In fact, you'll see a good number of my old projects this month. Yay!

Old Sewing Projects - 1950s Walk-Away Dress

Back in late June & early July of 2007 I sewed my first Birthday dress {I now sew one for every birthday}. It was my seventeenth birthday and I wanted something vintage & easy. Also, the theme for my birthday party that year was 1940s/50s. Hmmm...things haven't changed much have they?


Anyways, I used the very popular pattern: Butterick 4790. {In the 50s it was B6015.} Here is some history of the pattern from Butterick's site:

During the 1950s, Butterick experienced a phenomenon it had not known since the 'Garibaldi Suit' of the late 1860s. It was pattern 6015, and it was dubbed the 'walk-away' dress, because it was so easy you could "Start it after breakfast... walk-away in it for luncheon!". It's simple yet flattering wrap design and easy construction were what made it so popular. Sales of the pattern were so great, that at one point manufacturing of all other patterns ceased, and only the 'walk-away' dress was produced until all back-orders for this dress could be filled.

The floral fabric was from Joann Fabrics and was only 88 cents a yard {back when you could find fabric for real cheap!}. Everything else was from my stash - so it counts as free! Making the grand total of my dress - $3!

Well, we have been down in Florida since Saturday. But I decided to take a short blogging break whilst down here. Actually, this whole month you will hardly see me post. 1. I scare easily, yet I love Hitchcock films. {Strange, no?}
2. Frank Sinatra is my favorite male singer.
3. I used to not really like chocolate, besides white chocolate. Now, I adore all chocolate, but not white chocolate. Weird I know.
4. My most favorite trips have been to conferences. {more weirdness.}
5. I adore mustard yellow, kelly green, tiffany blue, and soft pinks right now.
6. I really want to find a pair of nude colored heels this spring/summer that have a 3 1/2" or shorter heel.
7. I'm obsessed with polka-dots.
8. I LOVE shopping & styling outfits. I sometimes think I want to be a kind-of stylist. I guess that's why I love blogging my outfits {well, when it is not winter, but when we have warmer weather}.
9. I can't wait for baseball season to start. {I'm a big baseball fan.}
10. I don't like the cold.
11. I used to not like tea or coffee until about two months ago. Now I like both.

5. How many places have you visited? Gosh. A ton. I've been to at least 38 States. Canada for a few minutes. And London, UK for a week.

6. Why do we have to write 11 questions? I've been wondering why too.

7. How would you tell some kid who loves santa that Santa Claus isn't real? I wouldn't have the heart to tell them. I guess I would just tell them the real story of Saint Nicholas.

8. Have you ever broken something in a store you hadn't bought or didn't want to buy? Not to my knowledge.

9. Have you ever written a story? Yes, a good number of picture book stories. Those are more my speed for writing.

10. How many blogs do you follow? *gulps* Way too many. I think about 500+. I really need to cut down my list.

11. If you had to design someone's wedding in the winter, what colors would it be? Indoor or outdoor? Indoor {can't stand the cold} and the colors would be navy blue, kelly green, and with splashes of mustard yellow & gray.

I ♥ Thursday {no. 21}

This week I've really been loving Lauren Conrad's style, make-up, and hairstyles. Two of her sites have also been added to my "must read" list too. The Beauty Department & Lauren Conrad's website/blog.

This past Saturday I bought Lauren Conrad Style. I read it cover-to-cover in about 1-2 hours. It is packed full of tips & I'm hoping to write a book review while in Florida. Because guess what? I'm going to read it again while on the beach. *grin*
